THE TERRIBLE HACK

His exhibit crew had made rubber molds
of 30 X 40 ft sections
of vertical rock.

It had already been repainted
where it was water damaged.

A keeper is never
more than five feet
from a button
that will summon help.

In the spring
the male had started scratching
loose sandy soil
from the floor
and kicking it.

The Rockle
by Gary Panter

The Flutterbye was on the rocks
tapping with his hammer
His son, the worm, inched to the books
as ever was his manner

The geese had long since pumped their pins
and flown southward for the winter
The fleas had loudly stubbled chins:
it was Christmas in September

The snail threw in a middling squib
to show he was no quitter
The countess brought her stately crib.
They locked her in the shitter

The mule erased a path of crumbs
strewn deep into the forest
The fly had finally had enough
and joined the Mormon chorus

Burn the woods to catch a skunk
said the cowboy with a cackle
Overhead we espied a punk
raised by block and tackle

The butterfly then took his leave
and left for the hereafter
The winter wind was quite relieved
and broke out in peals of laughter
