Waiting for Waco
The New Yorker
1993

In 1974 I began to work as an illustrator. Illustration is creative work, but it is not the same as personal work. To do illustration, it seems to me that it is best to adopt a neutral problem-solving attitude as opposed to the creative transports one might seek in personal art making.
